Reverse pyramid training for muscle strength and size (Clint’s current regimen)

What is Reverse Pyramid Training?

Reverse Pyramid Training or RPT, is a style of training I’ve quickly grown to love. I’m now a 2 weeks or so in, and feeling pretty good about myself. My lifts have gone up in every area and I feel pretty strong.

Why RPT?

It largely goes against traditional body building methods – Normally, you might start with a weight you can do 10 reps with, then progressively ramp up your weight and reduce the number of reps as you go heavier.
This is where Reverse Pyramid Training is different and will see you starting your HEAVIEST weights on your first set (after a very light warmup).

If your goal is increased mass and strength, this might be THE technique you’ve been looking for.
(I’ll be tracking my own results over coming months and reporting back on my own experiences). Read the rest of this entry »

Going backwards – How to avoid getting progressively weaker in the gym

I was in the gym the other day attempting to break my own record with weighted chins, when I epically failed on achieving an improvement from the week before. In fact, I had gone backwards.
I struggled to punch out the 2nd rep with 45kg’s hanging off my  waist and hand to let go whilst shaking my head in frustration.

The week before, I had done the same weight for 3 reps — so what gives?

With certain types of max-weight training, you can hit a wall and proceed to go backwards if you don’t do the right things with your life style. Especially with chin-ups and pull-ups — you can decline into a weakling faster than you can say ‘spank my ass and call me charlie sheen’.

How can one avoid such declination into sub-awesome areas of performance and avoid getting progressively weaker in the gym? Read on… Read the rest of this entry »

Shocking your guns into action plus other ways to get bigger and more impressive arms

How do I grow bigger, more impressive arms man?
There’s a sh*t-load of people out there chomping at the bit for this kind of information. It’s mainly because these ‘mirror-muscles’ are so sought after on beaches all over the planet.
Luckily for us, building bigger arms is an issue that’s easier to solve than most.

If you asked me how to grow impressive calves, on the other hand – I wouldn’t have a goddam clue.
Best shoot Arnold an email and ask him if he remembers. Unfortunately, he’s more than likely busy out-bench-pressing the residents at the old-folks home.

Finally! Power Balance bracelets exposed as a scam

In follow up to a previous article I wrote on these little bullsh*t bands, there has been some legal action against The Power Balance band makers by The ACCC.

In an article over at smh.com.au (full article here), it reads:
“The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has ordered Power Balance Australia to refund all customers who feel they were misled by the supposed benefits of Power Balance bracelets.”

Wowser
I wonder if this very news will convince those that have already parted with their $60 to ask for a refund?
It’s a sad case of affairs when Santa Claus is exposed as a ‘sham’, then suddenly Power Balance bands are too.

11 things I wish I’d known when i first started training

You can’t put an old head on young shoulders
For the most part this is true.
Trial and error when it comes to physical exercise and dieting is something which not only makes you wiser, but also debunks your own set of pre-conceived ideas.

What works for some, doesn’t work for others.
Unfortunately, determining what is in fact working, isn’t always that easy.

Here, I’ll point out the mistakes I’ve made over the past 10 years.
This will hopefully help you become more discerning, and also cut out some of your own guess-work.
